After 3 rounds in the preliminary qualifying competition started as far as October 2007, we know now 5 of the 6 African teams representing Africa for the World Cup 2010 : Ghana, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Cameroon, South Africa. Because Egypt or Algeria finished even on points and goal difference at the top of Group C, they will meet again next Wednesday in Sudan to decide which country goes to South Africa. Meanwhile....
Cameroon's Indomitable Lions are through to the World Cup finals South Africa following a 2-0 victory over Morocco in Fez. Their qualification for South Africa 2010 sets a new African record of six World Cup appearances. Cameroon's Achille Webo and Samuel Eto'o scored and rendered Gabon's result in Togo meaningless... Nigeria qualified in dramatic fashion with a 3-2 win against Kenya in Nairobi. The Super Eagles had to win to have any chance of denying Tunisia. This will be Nigeria's fourth appearance at the World Cup finals as they qualified in 1994, 1998 and in 2002. Ghana became the first African side to reach the 2010 World Cup in South Africa from the qualifiers after beating Sudan, so the last game against Mali which ended by a draw 2-2 didn't really matter... Then Ivory Coast became the second on the 10th of October after defeating Malawi in group E. |
